Technical Summary

The 181NPWX4-099 is an 18-inch professional woofer and sub-woofer driver rated at 1500 W AES (3000 W continuous) into a nominal 4-ohm impedance, designed for touring, large-venue installation, and high-SPL bass reinforcement systems. The driver features a 5.3-inch (134.6 mm) voice coil wound on a Polyimide composite former rated to 350°C, enabling sustained operation at continuous power levels that would thermally compromise standard glass fiber or paper formers. The motor-suspension design is optimized to maintain consistent performance at high drive levels, with controlled excursion and reduced thermal compression during long-term operation.

In bass reflex enclosures, the driver performs best in net internal volumes of 80 to 180 liters, tuned between 30 and 40 Hz, with an estimated -3 dB frequency of approximately 29 to 39 Hz. The low Qts (0.25) and exceptionally high motor force (Bl = 29.7 T·m) make this driver exclusively suited to vented enclosures; sealed alignments require impractically small volumes for an 18-inch frame. Slot ports in the 200 mm × 80 mm format are recommended for larger cabinets, with port velocities between 12.9 and 17.1 m/s — within professional installation standards across all three alignments.

The driver is intended for use with high-power amplification of approx. 1500 W AES (3000 W continuous) into 4 ohms, with a recommended high-pass filter in the 24–35 Hz range depending on alignment. DSP control with excursion limiting and thermal protection is essential at sustained drive levels near the continuous rating. The 4-ohm impedance is suited to high-current solid-state amplification in direct or bridged configurations; parallel wiring of two drivers presents a 2-ohm load for compatible amplifiers.

The 181NPWX4-099 is intended for single and multi-driver bass reflex enclosures in professional touring and fixed installation applications, including concert sub arrays, club and venue subwoofer systems, cinema low-frequency systems, and large-format PA bass sections where the combination of high sensitivity (94.8 dB), extreme power handling, and very low Qts motor control define the performance envelope.

RECOMMENDED ENCLOSURE TYPE: Bass Reflex (Vented) only
  With Qts=0.25, this driver is firmly in the strongly-vented alignment
  range. Sealed enclosures require impractically small volumes to reach
  Qtc=0.707 (~24L for an 18" driver), producing a system resonance near
  79 Hz — completely inappropriate for subwoofer applications. Vented
  enclosures fully exploit the low Qts: the port resonance provides
  additional cone control near tuning, and the high motor force (Bl=29.7)
  maintains tight, controlled bass output under continuous drive.
VENTED ALIGNMENTS
Vd = 1225.4 cm² × 8.9mm = 1090.6 cm³

Both round port and slot port options are given. Slot ports are
preferred for large enclosures due to reduced turbulence and easier
