Design Notes

20NFR was designed for applications where true full-range frequency response from one driver is required. From low to up to 17kHz, this driver truly delivers that. With additional DSP, the driver can be used from about 60Hz up.
We have developed very lightweight foam surround material. This material is our preference anywhere where we are designing larger cone excursions, yet lightweight piston is required. It delivers excellent acoustical properties without the mass penalties.
The magnetic circuit was designed around neodymium slug magnets, with u-cup style steel. The circuit delivers very high performance in very small and lightweight form factor.

Technical Summary

The 20NFRX4-345A is a 2-inch full-range driver built around a neodymium slug magnetic circuit in a compact U-cup steel housing, designed for embedded consumer and commercial audio applications requiring a single-driver full-range solution. The glass fiber reinforced paper cone is driven by a 19mm voice coil on a Kapton former, with a lightweight foam surround engineered to deliver large-excursion capability with minimal moving mass (Mms = 1.37 g). Sensitivity is 79.56 dB (1W/1m) with a Bl product of 3.24 T.m, supporting 10W AES / 20W continuous power handling within a 48mm overall diameter and 29mm depth. Qts = 0.52 reflects a compliant suspension design suited to moderate-volume micro-enclosures, with a balanced motor-suspension ratio that supports controlled excursion across the operating band.

- 106 mL / Qtc=0.707 / f-3dB=252 Hz - portable speaker; maximum bass extension without DSP
- 33 mL / Qtc=1.00 / f-3dB=280 Hz - soundbar or near-field multimedia; compact sealed cavity
- 21 mL / Qtc=1.20 / f-3dB=314 Hz - TV set integration or ultra-slim soundbar; requires DSP correction for flat response

In free-air or open-back installations (TV panels, open column baffles), the driver exhibits a natural -3dB rolloff at approximately 272 Hz; with host DSP equalization, the manufacturer documents usable bass extension to approximately 60 Hz. Excursion at low frequencies under boosted conditions must be managed to remain within the 3.0mm Xmax.

The inductance rolloff onset at 7,162 Hz and the cone beaming onset at 5,764 Hz are both well above the critical midrange band, enabling a substantially flat response across 200 Hz-5 kHz without correction - an important attribute for a single-driver full-range in TV, soundbar, and column speaker applications. In vertical column array installations, the 48mm driver pitch limits coherent array directivity to approximately 3.6 kHz before grating lobes appear in the vertical pattern; the natural cone beaming above 5.7 kHz provides complementary high-frequency directivity control. Rear cavity volume per driver in a column enclosure is typically 20-40 mL (Alignments 2 or 3). The 20NFRX4-345A is suited for flat-panel TV and soundbar integration where compact form factor and DSP-supported bass extension are primary design objectives; vertical column speaker arrays for speech-priority installed sound; small portable Bluetooth or battery-powered speakers requiring moderate bass from a compact sealed cavity; and near-field multimedia monitors and compact desktop audio products.

Recommended enclosure volumes are simulated results. For best enclosure volumes and tuning, we recommend secondary simulation and careful evaluation. Several rounds of samples and fine-tuning may be required for optimal results.
